Myth of the Siren

Chapter Fourteen
The breathtaking sight of luscious dark green trees and the smoldering bright red sun did nothing to ease the tension crackling in the air that surrounded the trio descending the Dragnian mountains.
Gone was the treacherous typhoons and in its wake resided a peaceful atmosphere, quiet and rich with natural life.
Yunho frowned as he followed the Siren down the path. Jaejoong was… strange. Of course, Sirens were strange to begin with. However, the boy looked worn and at any moment, the boy was likely to collapse, “Where are we headed?”
Jaejoong held fast to his fluttering white cape and pulled it over his trembling body. His newly acquired vision was pounding, the edges around the scenery hazy and his eyes throbbing, “… to King Jung.”
Sungho was merrily skipping ahead of them, his bright grin causing more than just a little alarm, “The One.” He turned, his demeanor swiftly changing back to the mellow man Jonghyuk respected, “The Fire will be most pleased.”
Yunho’s glowing onyx eyes became slightly more pronounced, the wind shifting as a result, “Why is this
Fire person looking for my father?”
Jaejoong suddenly stumbled, his world tilting. His knees buckled and he groaned.
Ah… my head… feels like it’s going to explode…Yunho moved to his side, his prediction proving correct, and his hand came up to touch Jaejoong’s shoulder, “Are you okay, Siren?”
Jaejoong shook his head, squeezing his eyes shut, “It… it hurts…” His mind was being dissected. Already the invasion felt familiar, he prepared himself quickly before icy fingertips plunged into his psyche.
[MEMORY]The temple was large and grand in both its exterior and interior. Gold and bronze outlined the colossal structure and within it sat the brilliantly sculptured marble figures of the Gods.
Taemin kneeled before the statues with the look of determined concentration. He has been kneeling for the past six days, his body completely numb save for the sharp pain piercing his knees.
At the corner of his eye he saw Dana, his fellow priestess. She watched him, a grim expression marring her beautiful face. Though distressed, she dared not speak.
The sound of dripping water was suddenly interrupted by a sharp clack of wood, signaling a new sunrise to the East of the temple.
Taemin immediately bowed, his forehead meeting the dirt floor with precision, blood marking his connection to the Earth. He closed his eyes and whispered a long prayer. Faith in his Gods and loyalty to his country, Taemin followed the prayer with summons.
For a few seconds, there was only absolute silence. The temple was devoid of sound, even the raspy sound of breathing and the soothing sound of wind ceased. At the exact moment of the seventh day, Taemin waited patiently.
Slowly, the dirt floor directly beneath the statues became wet with cool water. Water slowly rose from the Earth until Taemin’s bowing figure was completely submerged in the pure crystalline water.
The water was a beautiful blue, a sign of its divine origin.
Taemin kept his head bowed, his trust in the Gods keeping him calm within the depths of the mystic water. Oxygen was the last thing on his mind.
The water alternated between warm and cool, then hot and cold. For what felt like an eternity, it rippled and swayed. Thinking. Finally, as if reaching a decision the water swirled, bursting into a million droplets before collapsing back into itself. A figure quickly formed within the vortex of confused water. An arm and then a leg, at the core a black hole gaped … a deep voice murmured softly from the watery abyss, “I will help you in your quest, Prophet… tell me what you wish from me.”
Taemin closed his eyes again until the dark figure nodded and confirmed, “It shall be done.”
Immediately the water lost its structure, splashing heavily back down into the Earth. In its place were two glowing orbs. One blue and one red. They both took masculine forms, kneeling on one knee casually.
The first had glowing cerulean blue eyes, the orb surrounding him turning into water and then ice before disappearing. He stood, his lips pulling into a distant smirk. He said nothing, completely relaxed and nonchalant as he gazed softly at Taemin’s bowed head.
The second was tall, his long limbs oddly graceful in his position. His eyes glowed just as brightly as the first, only they were the color of burning red ambers. Flickering beneath him were licking flames. He did not stand, but instead, opt to remain on his one knee. Kneeling upon it as he eyed Taemin with a deep frown set against his smooth handsome face.
[/MEMORY]Jaejoong shifted, warmth enveloping his shivering form. He forced his eyes to open, gazing straight up into the glowing onyx of Yunho’s eyes, “…” He felt himself smile before letting his translucent eyelids drop. Sight, as it were, has become a burden.
The energy he felt from the two divine beings in the Fire’s memory felt familiar. The dense power they emitted was identical to those of Yunho’s companions back when he had encountered them in Soran.
So I was amongst Gods… Jaejoong slowly sat up from Yunho’s loose hold and shook his head at the Prince’s confusion, “The Fire only gives me short flashes of memory. He knows your Captain and your Lieutenant.”
Yunho raised an eyebrow, “What does this all mean?”
Sungho rolled his eyes, pulling Jaejoong and Yunho quickly to their feet, “Obviously, it means we need to get to Dakria. Let’s go.” He leaned against Jaejoong with a companionable squeeze, a rather wicked grin immerging grotesquely from his pale face, “Perhaps by the time we get there, Yunho’s brother would have recovered enough to follow.”
At that moment, Yunho stiffened but could not react as he was forcefully pulled down the path.
The powerful General of Dakria had forgotten all about his brother. He blinked.

“Lieutenant Choi.” Heechul stood at attention as Shiwon entered the conference room, “Our platoon is ready to march.”
Shiwon quietly sat down, his expression wary, “How could such a sickness exist?”
Heechul relaxed his body, his eyes shifting downward, “Some kind of psychic force touched the Fortress. When the Fortress defenses retaliated, this was the effect of the burst.”
“Has Captain Park sent any orders?”
“Not yet. We were only to prepare for departure.”
Shiwon nodded, “Have you spoken to the other platoon sergeants?”
Heechul shook his head again, “Unfortunately, I am the only one unaffected by the sickness. As are you, Lieutenant.”
Shiwon stood up, “You said that this may have occurred because of a magick-based attack?”
Heechul looked away, his eyes darting to the ceiling before sinking to the floor again, “That. Or…”
Shiwon looked at him, standing up straight, “Or what?”
Heechul moved to hold his forehead, “Shiwon… don’t you feel different? We were unaffected by the sickness, perhaps…”
“What are you trying to say?”
Heechul shook his head, “I feel as if a shield in my mind has been lifted. The Fortress defenses managed to deflect the spell from the others, creating a sickness. But for us and Captain Park’s circle… I think it only managed to slow down the affects.”

The winding trails up the steep mountain were ringed with bright green bushes. Tall trees lined the path and brilliant flowers bloomed majestically on their branches.
Keita looked behind him and walked towards a dark gray boulder to rest. He has trekked up at least half of the mountain by now.
It truly has been a long century since he’d stepped foot on Dragnia.
[MEMORY]Junsu stood straight before the new King of Dakria, his crystalline flute poised beside him. His eyes were blank, “Sire, in order to create such a space, we will need an area untouched by magick…” His white outfit clashed against the dark backdrop of the Dakrian throne room, “Such a place is unheard of.”
King Jung, the former Prince Jung, narrowed his eyes, “Do you have an objection then, Siren? My father has passed away, I suggest you straighten your attitude with me.”
Junsu’s lips tightened, “What you are asking is impossible.”
Jaejoong touched Junsu’s arm, pulling him back. They exchanged a quick look before Jaejoong stepped up, his eyes piercing King Jung’s with displeasure, “As far as we know, sire, the Prophet has done nothing that would warrant such a punishment.”
Off to the side, Taemin sat immobilized by two guards, a clamp secured across his mouth to keep him from speaking. Taemin looked at the Sirens meaningfully, their mind-speak loud and clear before he glared hatefully at King Jung, tears streaming down his cheeks.
Keita glanced at the Prophet, his hands tightening against his violin, “We will trap him on the Dragnian mountains.”
Junsu and Jaejoong turned to look at him in surprise, “What? We can’t do that…”
Keita gave them both a firm nod, “If the King commands it, it will be done.” He turned and motioned for the guards to follow him.
Glaring at the King, Junsu scoffed and pulled Jaejoong after Keita’s retreating form.
“What are you thinking, Keita? We can’t mess with natural order.”
Keita grabbed Taemin roughly, “Guards, you may leave. I have no need for you.”
The guards saluted, “Yes, sir.” And promptly retreated.
Keita released the Prophet the moment the men were out of sight.
They all stared at each other as Taemin removed the clamp from his lips. There was no need for words amongst telepaths.
Keita looked at Taemin, “You know what we must do…”
Taemin watched him, “Will you be able to get to Yoochun and Changmin in time?”
There was a silence that made Taemin’s body shudder, but Keita’s soft voice left them all resigned, “… I will try my best. But I cannot promise you anything.”
[/MEMORY]They didn’t make it.
Keita covered his eyes, exhaustion pulling his weight to the dirt path. For the life of him, he could not remember what happened after the black hole was created.
His violin controlled time, Jaejoong’s voice commanded the elements, and Junsu’s flute manipulated space… with their joint efforts, a dimensional pocket was created at the top of Dragnia and Taemin was forced to remain there… banished from the world. Did he not make it to Changmin and Yoochun? Even for the wielder of time, such an answer seemed out of reach.
How did they end up in Mysteria? How did Yoochun and Changmin… become soldiers of the Dakrian militia?
What crucial event happened a century ago… that created this mess?
“Keita?!”
The violinist jolted out of his thoughts, his head snapping up at the familiar sound of Jaejoong’s voice. A wave of relief choked him as he stumbled to stand, his arms flew open to embrace Jaejoong as the other Siren ran towards him.
With his memories securely tucked away in his mind, Keita felt as if he has been away from Jaejoong for this entire century, not just the few months that they have been apart.
Behind Jaejoong’s flowing white cape was Prince Yunho, the son of King Jung. Keita watched him before shifting his gaze over to the other telepath in the group.
Sungho smiled, “Hello.”
Keita stared at him for a while, unable to speak.
The man’s eyes glinted mysteriously as he ushered Prince Yunho towards him, “Looks like we have another traveling companion.”
Keita’s eyes narrowed, “Where are you going?” Keita looked back towards the road ascending the mountain, “What of Taemin?”
Jaejoong stiffened, pulling out of Keita’s arms, “You know Taemin?”
“I recovered my memories…” Keita looked into Jaejoong’s eyes and frowned, “Do you remember?”
“I only know what Taemin allows me to know.” Jaejoong sighed and looked over to Yunho, “I don’t quite understand what he has to do with all of this…”
Sungho chuckled, “Like I said… you were looking for the One. But not the right one.” The man walked ahead, “If you want to recover your eyesight fully, Jaejoong, I would hurry along now. The Fire grows wary.”
Yunho stepped closer to Jaejoong, his eyes finally melting back into a natural brown, “What is all this
One and
not the One spiel?”
Jaejoong took in Yunho’s handsome face and answered, his voice light, “I really…” He looked away, gazing at Sungho’s cheerful gait, “… don’t know...”

Bronze tea in a delicate little glass cup, the Hikari Gardens swaying along with the gentle breeze, the clearing bright with the morning sun… Dana smiled, taking a small sip of the light brew in her hands. Perfect.
A loud rustle startled her from her thoughts as a slightly irate Changmin strode into the clearing.
She smiled at his grumpy face, “Well, well, what brings you out here, Lieutenant?”
Changmin didn’t say anything, but instead took a seat across from her, his hands reaching out to pour himself a cup of tea.
She took a deep breath and relaxed. It was rare for Changmin to voluntarily spend time with her, “Feeling unwell?”
Changmin took a gulp of the scorching hot tea, his eyes momentarily blazing with amber before they died back down to brown, “That depends, Dana.”
“Depends on what?”
“It depends on why you are still lying to me.”
She blinked, quickly placing her teacup down to hide her uneasiness, “Lying to you?”
Changmin smirked, “Who do you work for, Dana?”
Dana’s gentle expression vanished, her eyes narrowed, “The Fire. Who else?”
“Why did you not tell me about the Sirens?”
Dana suddenly laughed, “What are you talking about? You are the one who brought him back here…”
Changmin’s amused smirk hardened, “There you are, Sorceress… lying through your teeth again. Or should I say… Priestess?”
Akira walked into the clearing, his loud announcement adding to the tension in the air, “Lieutenant! Fancy seeing you here!” Akira paused, his eyes taking in the grim lines on Dana’s face, “Ah… did I come at the wrong time?”
Changmin stood, his eyes suddenly glowing amber, he turned to face Akira, “No. In fact, I’d say you came at just the right time.”
“Ah!” Akira jerked back as a burst of angry flames surrounded him, he immediately pulled his sword out of its sheath and pulled back. He glared at Changmin’s smug expression and shifted into a defensive stance, “What is the meaning of this, Shim? Will you attack your own cousin?”
Changmin snorted, “Cousin? Don’t you think this charade has gone on long enough?”
Akira straightened, his usual cheer dropping. He stared coldly at Changmin, “You remember.”
Changmin withdrew his flames, but his eyes remained golden with flecks of crimson, “You lied to me.”
Akira finally smirked, “Don’t be angry with me, Changmin. If I remember correctly… it wasn’t me who killed the Prophet.”
Changmin clenched his teeth, fire burst from the ground surrounding him, “You lied to me.”
“Is that all you can say now… poor Taemin, I can still remember to this day the way he stared at you in horror as your flames engulfed him. The day when the Prophet became nothing but charred bones and fire...”
Changmin let out an animalistic scream, the entire clearing raged with fire. He stepped forward and grabbed Akira by his collar, lifting him completely off the ground, “You lied to me!”
Akira laughed, his eyes glittering with mirth, “And in the end… your beloved Keita--”
“BE QUIET.”
Akira didn’t get to finish his sentence as Changmin threw him across the clearing, flames igniting from every direction. The tall Lieutenant lunged after him, his sword a blazing red-hot orange.

The Fortress was uncharacteristically still and silent. Yoochun stared out the window of his room, his hand tightly fisted on the hilt of his sword. The sun was halfway through it’s course, the heat of the day rising in waves above the distant grounds.
Behind him, Hyukjae stood at attention, his mouth moving at an impossible speed as he reported, “Junsu is on the last caravan, same as before, Captain. The sick platoons have already started their march and will be a day ahead of us. It should take less than a fortnight for the battalion to cross into Dakrian borders.”
Yoochun looked down towards his desk and retrieved a neatly folded note, he turned and gave it to Hyukjae, “Send this to Prince Yunho… use the quickest method possible.”
“Yes, sir.” Hyukjae tucked it away into his pocket, “Is there anything you need me to do after, Captain?”
Yoochun turned away again, a hand coming up to touch his temple, a pained expression crossing his face, “… take care of my Siren for me.”
Hyukjae pressed his lips together, his face set into a determined line, “Yes, sir…” The soldier watched Yoochun for a moment before he finally stepped forward, “Will you be long, Captain Park?”
Yoochun grabbed a tightly packed bag from his chair and settled it against his back, “I should not be more than a few days… Lieutenant Choi will be in charge while I’m away.”
Hyukjae saluted, “Have a safe journey, sir.”
Yoochun paused, his voice slightly hesitant, “Don’t tell Junsu, keep him company until I return.”
Hyukjae nodded seriously, “I will.”
Yoochun nodded slowly, he forced a soft smile and he gave Hyukjae a squeeze on the shoulder before leaving the room.
<.oO{END OF Chapter Fourteen}Oo.>
Boring, ne? Hahaha, for some reason, all the action seems to always happen at the very end O_O. Right now, I’m trying to get everyone to where I need them to be XD. Gyah. Changmin is kind of behind, so I will have to catch him up in the next chapter. Junsu didn’t even make an appearance here…
Anyways ^^:
So the reason why Dakrians hate Sirens are now revealed XD. I know that some of you asked me why Yunho, Changmin, and Yoochun look down on Sirens so much ^^. It’s all King Jung’s influence.
I am… so… dizzy XD. I am kind of proud of myself for getting this far into this story. At first, when I first thought of Mysteria… I definitely thought “Damn. I love twisted plots, but this one might be too hard to pull off.” Well, whether or not that is true has yet to be answered. So *crosses fingers*.
I love Mysteria, I really do. I love all my stories of course, but this one really has a special place in my heart because I not only met someo f my closest LJ friends through it but it helped strengthen the bonds that I had with the LJ friends I already had before it. <3 Thank you guys for your patience haha, I really doesn’t deserve it T_T *huggles*. Thank you!
